Small cell lung cancer prognosis or the chance of recovery depends on several factors. before talking about small cell lung cancer prognosis, we should know more about the definition of small cell lung cancer.

Small cell lung cancer is a disease in which malignant cells or cancer form in the lung’s tissues  and can spread to another part of the body. When looked at under microscope, the cancer cells look small and oval-shaped.

Types of small cell lung cancer. There are 2 types of small cell lung cancer, namely small cell carcinoma and combined small cell carcinoma.

Risk Factors. there are several risk factors for small cell lung cancer, namely cigarettes smoking, being exposed to radon or asbestos, and being exposed to secondhand smoke. The major risk factor of developing small cell lung cancer is smoking tobacco.

Symptoms of small cell lung cancer. There are several signs and symptoms which may be caused by small cell lung cancer. If the following problems occur, you should consult with a doctor:

• Cough that does not go away.
• Chest pain which doesn’t go away.
• Shortness of breath.
• Wheezing.
• Hoarseness.
• Coughing up blood.
• Loss of appetite.
• Swelling of the neck and face.
• Weight loss for unknown reason.
• Unusual tiredness.

Small cell lung cancer prognosis. The chance of recovery or the small cell lung cancer prognosis depends on:

• The stage of the small cell lung cancer. we need to know whether it has spread to other part in the body or it is in the chest cavity.
• Small cell lung cancer prognosis are also depends on the patient’s general health and gender.
• The blood level of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). When this blood level is higher than normal, it may indicate cancer.
