Dad Blames Negligence Regarding Birth Control for Teen’s Death

In this day and age, many women rely on birth control as a part of their everyday health regimens. the major reason to take “the pill” is to avoid unwanted pregnancy. Of course, there are other benefits to taking the pill for some as well.

One of those popular benefits is that taking birth control can improve a woman’s skin problems such as acne. In an out-of-state case, one father’s young daughter was prescribed birth control for that singular reason. the alleged negligence that inspired that prescription, according to the father, is what led to his teen’s untimely death.

According to Courthouse News Services, a North Carolina father has filed a wrongful death lawsuit following the death of his 15-year-old daughter. she had reportedly suffered from acne during her young teen years and was prescribed Yasmin and later its generic form to treat her skin condition.

Within one year of the teen taking the pill, she displayed what the father now knows were symptoms of pulmonary embolisms. various other lawsuits across the country have been filed related to Yasmin causing such injuries to patients. on Jun. 14, 2009, the teen in this case suffered a seizure and died from various blood clots in her lungs.

The mourning father is suing the manufacturers of the birth control product, the medical center where his daughter’s doctors worked and the doctors who treated her. he believes his daughter should not have been prescribed Yasmin or its generic brand and that doctors failed to notice the symptoms of her medical downfall before her tragic death, including rashes and significant weight gain.

It’s undisclosed how much the plaintiff wants in compensatory and punitive damages from the wrongful death suit. What is certain, however, is that whatever that amount is, it will never make up for his unimaginable loss.
